What is Fibromyalgia?

Fibromyalgia is known as the “Hidden Disability” because no one can see the pain and emotional distress that it causes the sufferer. It is a chronic condition of widespread pain and profound fatigue. Living with Fibromyalgia is an intensely personal issue – physically, mentally and socially. It is not easy to understand or live with. You did not ask for this condition.

There is no easy way to get rid of the syndrome of pain, fatigue and bouts of depression. Most of you will know how difficult it is to keep a good attitude and to do things that help to maintain your best possible health – and remain sane and well-balanced at the same time.

There are days when we have flare-ups and feel so isolated because we can’t get more help and information about this illness.

The best way to learn more about Fibromyalgia is to talk to other people who also suffer from it. You can do this by finding out if there is a support group in your area and going along to one of their meetings. Your GP, hospital or library should have leaflets and information about a support group in your area.
